METAL WORK OPTION
Course Outline: Metal Work
Course Objectives:
As an introduction to Metal Work and Welding, students will be introduced to:
General shop safety
Hand tool use, project planning, measurement and layout
Sheet metal shearing, tooling, bending and joining
Arc welding safety and procedures
Oxy-Acetylene safety and welding/brazing procedures
Course Guidelines:
This is a project-based course and students are expected to learn while building
different projects. Attendance is very important as safety and procedural information will
be given daily. If courses are missed it is up to the students to get the needed instruction
outside of class time.
Safety is my utmost concern and students must follow all of the safety rules of this
shop at all times.
Evaluation:
The following performance skills and attitudes will be considered in evaluation for this
reporting period.
1. Quality of work accomplished
2. Written work and test scores (safety and tools)
3. Accomplishment in proportion to your ability
4. Attitude towards work and level of cooperation towards others
5. Ability to follow instructions: both oral and written
6. Initiative, self-direction dependability and perseverance.
7. Respect of tools and equipment and observance of safety guidelines
8. Willingness to maintain a clean and tidy shop environment
9. Completeness and neatness of notebook.
Mark Distribution:
Projects (production and written work)………………..50%
Professionalism (see 3-9 above)………………………… 50%
Note: Professionalism marks will be taken daily for all students and students will be
assigned a mark from 0-5.
